Furniture Care for Your Hotel or Restaurant

cafe.jpgRestaurants have always fascinated me. There’s something magical about the way a great restaurant can jam a whole lot of people into a small area, take their orders, get their food out quickly, and keep everyone happy. There’s a lot of energy and expertise involved, I’m sure, and it’s got to be a thankless job most of the time. Too often, businesses only hear from clients that were unsatisfied by their experience. So, to all the harried restaurant owners and employees out there, I salute you. On a grander scale, I also salute hotels. There are a lot of cogs in your wheel, and it takes hard work to keep them turning smoothly.

In a stressful environment, every little bit of efficiency counts. Why spend a long time cleaning your furniture when you could just get a piece with wonderful stain and moisture repellent properties? If that’s not possible, you can at least be familiar with tips and tricks for keeping your bistro chairs looking their best.

Spills are a fact of life, especially in restaurants and hotels. To deal with a spill and prevent it from becoming a stain, get to it as quickly as possible before it soaks into fabric. Try to soak it up with a dry, absorbent cloth. Damp cloths are good for daily cleaning, but they can force liquid deeper into fibers, setting the stain. If you’ve just spent money on new contract hotel furniture, you surely don’t want it to be all blotchy.

Routine maintenance is also important. Keep your furniture clean, and have cleanup materials within easy reach in case a bad spill does occur. If your seats have removable cushions, rotate them regularly so that wear and tear is more evenly distributed, and not just focused on one or two. And when possible, get furniture in vinyl or other easily cleaned materials. That way, you and your employees can focus less on sopping up wine stains and more on keeping the guests happy.
